All things where clear after Bilbao Hyrox…i wanted more
After a well paced and all round good effort in my first race i knew i wanted more, but more importantly i knew i had more to give but how to get more was the question.
I knew i wanted to chase that sub 70 minutes that i missed out on my first race.
I had 10 weeks to prepare and i knew this time i wanted coaching, i knew i needed someone who had the knowledge to get me to the next level and someone with experience in the sport. This is when i approached Liam from Podium1 who i already knew from the Hyrox Corby Simulation.
We went over my race numbers and with no real ‘weaknesses’ or major alarm bells we had the simple task of just getting faster and stronger in 10 weeks… easy right?
The programme was set to perfection even around my crazy work schedules, illness and of course me doing a doubles sim in the middle and chasing a 5k PB…. aren’t clients just the best?
ultimately we was locked in and making solid progress for Barcelona when i got offered a London Hyrox doubles opportunity which was too good to turn down, and it was only a week after Barcelona, id later learn there was one more surprise to come in Lonon but well get to that.
As having been a coach before i felt Liams pain as working with a client who just wont stop adding things to the calendar. But one thing i did do as a client is listen and take in every bit of information and coaching.
10 weeks training went by in a flash and i was on another plane to Spain, this time not alone as i was with another friend, Liam supporting his first race.
This time around i wasn’t making the same mistakes and keeping control of my activities the day before my race (running around the venue supporting another race did happen) and of course proper nutrition and fuelling with strict information from the coach.
Race day, well rested, well fuelled and knowing what i was heading into. By now i had linked up with a few other friends from Hyrox corby so there was no lone ranger vibe this time, pure love and support on the day makes a huge difference.
The aim of the race, another clean run, solid pacing and of course a PB.
Everything about the day felt comfortable and on the track i felt stronger and in control of every movement, the sleds did not surprise me and the the work we had put in was paying off, faster station times and moving quicker in the Rox zone and on the running course.
Another clean race, no major alarm bells and a 3 minute Personal pest. Ending the race on 70 minutes…and 3 seconds. No sub 70 but a PB and a huge movement in the right direction.
Up next, London Olympia
